Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health and well-being. There are dozens of types of massage therapy methods (also called modalities). People seek massage therapy for a variety of reasons – to reduce stress and anxiety, relax muscles, rehabilitate injuries, reduce pain, and promote overall health and wellness.
We offer many different types of massage therapy by Kristin Sanders, Licensed Massage Therapist. Several of them are described below.
Deep Tissue Massage: A type of massage in which the fingers, thumbs and elbows are used to release chronic muscle tension, using slow, deep strokes and friction; Kristin may work perpendicular to the length of the fibers of the superficial muscles, with the intent of massaging muscle that lies underneath of relieve tension, knots and discomfort.
Swedish Massage: The most commonly used form of classical Western massage, generally performed in the direction of the heart, sometimes with active or passive movement of the joints. It is used especially for relaxation, relief of muscular tension, and improvement of circulation and range of motion.
Cupping Therapy: This is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which the therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and is a form of lymphatic drainage and detoxification of the body.
