Who is the ideal patient for Profound RF Microneedling?
Profound treatment is especially effective at refining the contours of the jawline, neck, and chin. It can also be performed on the cheek area to improve tissue firmness and resiliency. Virtually any area of the body in which the skin has become loose and saggy may be improved with RF microneedling. Some patients seek Profound to treat tissue laxity above the knees, on the backs of the arms, the abdomen, and the décolleté. The marked increase in collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid also firms the skin in areas of cellulite, improving texture and appearance. What are the benefits of Profound RF Microneedling?
A surgical facelift works by manually repositioning tissues to recontour the chin, jawline, upper neck, and cheek areas. This technique can refresh appearance but does nothing to support the skin as the body continues to age. Profound RF microneedling delivers many of the same benefits without the risks of surgery. Patients enjoy gradual tissue remodeling that looks like they are aging backward for a time. There is little downtime needed after Profound treatment, and results can last years with good lifestyle and skin care habits.
What must I do to prepare for the treatment?
Before undergoing Profound treatment, it is helpful to:
- Schedule a complimentary consultation in our office.
- Hydrate the skin by consuming at least 64 ounces of water daily, beginning at least one week before the session.
- Avoid NSAID medications like Advil, Aleve, aspirin, fish oil, vitamin E for 14 days before treatment. Alcohol consumption should also be avoided for this amount of time.
- Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores. You may need to take antiviral medication before treatment.
- Do not use topical retinoid products in the five days before treatment.
- Wear SPF 30 sunscreen and avoid prolonged sun exposure.
What can I expect after the treatment?
You can expect some degree of redness and swelling in the treatment area. You may also develop mild bruising. The risk of this side effect can be decreased by avoiding alcohol and NSAIDs for 14 days before your appointment. The minor side effects typically resolve in 4 to 6 days. Your normal activities may not be interrupted much during this time. You may return to most light activities as soon as you are comfortable. However, you may need to wash the treatment areas 3 to 5 times a day for up to 4 days following your session so will want to schedule accordingly.
Is Profound RF safe?
Microneedling and radiofrequency procedures are performed separately all the time and we have been doing it for many years. Each has been clinically proven to safely and effectively stimulate collagen production. The Profound platform has combined the two to achieve more significant results more quickly. The RF energy is deposited beneath the epidermis rather than through it. The device has a temperature control feature that heats the dermis to the precise temperature at which a healing response occurs, but without the risk of burning the skin. The optimal level of dermal temperature for tissue remodeling is 152 to 165 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature is maintained for only 3 to 4 seconds.
How many treatments are needed?
Unlike other RF microneedling equipment available today, most requiring a series of 3 treatments, Profound is intended as a single treatment procedure. In clinical studies conducted by the device manufacturer, 100% of patients showed an improvement in lines and wrinkles at six months. In a separate study, 94% of subjects showed a marked improvement in cellulite at three months post-treatment. While individual results can vary, they are expected to last several years. Patients may return for additional treatments as needed to support their aging skin.
